Steve and I received this video from our son Sean while we were on a long weekend in Las Vegas for Don Henley and Elton John concerts. I think my 3 year old grand-daughter can give Bill Withers a run for his money. I was laughing so hard I was crying, and must have watched it over and over at least 5 times.. Last weekend Steve and I attended a fundraiser at the home of Kenny Loggins in Santa Barbara California. Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation raises funds needed to carry out their mission of providing financial and other assistance to families with a child diagnosed with cancer. Teddy Bear works to ensure that children with cancer receive the undivided attention of their parents during the treatment and recovery process through financial aid an other helpful services. Teddy Bear supports families by paying crucial bills (rent, mortgage, utilities) so a parent can be by their child's bedside. Additional services include parent support groups, reading to children in the hospital, hotel accommodations, and family fun days - even assistance with funeral costs.

If you've been living under a rock or just never watch movies or listen to music Kenny Loggins has been around for over the past three decades. He is an extraordinary singer-songwriter and guitarist. Some of you may remember him while he was with Jim Messina in 1972-1976. Kenny has 12 albums that have gone platinum and beyoud. In the 80's he became famous as the king of the movie theme songs, like "I'm Alright" (from Caddyshack) "Footloose" (from Footloose), "Danger Zone" (from Top Gun), and "Nobody's Fool" (from Caddyshack).

Remembering 9-11

On September 11, 2011 this year Los Alamitos Bay Landing had a huge celebration in honor of the 10 year anniversary of 9-11.

They had festivities that started at 2:30 that afternoon and went well into the night.. It was the 1st time ever to have fireworks in the bay, and they just happen to be directly in front of the Hertzog's home in Naples.

We had a small group get-together and had a really fun night, drinking wine, eating pizza, and giving thanks for those spared and remembering those taken on that never to be forgotten September morning 10 years ago..

I could've lost my closest friend that day. Kim Hertzog sat on the runway in an American Airline jet waiting to take off from Boston's Logan airport when the 2 previous planes that were on the same runway hit the two World Trade Center buildings. I had just left her on the 8th to come back to LB. Kim and I took Dieter, (Kim & Leif's oldest son) back to Harvard University to get him oriented and settled into his dorm. She had tried to get on an earlier flight and thank God she wasn't able to.

Where were you that morning? It's a day we shall never forget!!

Reagan started off her 2011 Soccer season a totally different kid. This is her 2nd year playing and Daddy is Assisting in the Coaching department. Reagan has become a real scoring machine this year..she seems to just "get it" once she scored the 1st couple of goals it was "Wow this is not so bad"!! I think she scored 6 goals that 1st game, but Reagan would tell you "7" but who's counting..
No score is kept.. The girl's still run around like a herd of turtles hoping that someone might know what to do with the ball if happens upon them. They are only 5 years old, but Grandpa thinks they could learn "positions". We'll see, the kids are totally fun to watch and I look forward to each and every moment. But then I am the proudest Nani in the world! (my world)

We spent an evening with Roy Yamaguchi and two guest chefs Jackie Nabong and Michael Rossi

for a truly unique 5 course dinner paired with KAENA Wines.

Mike and Sally live in Santa Ynez where Mike has been a wine maker for several years now. Kim and Leif decided to grow grapes and they chose "Grenache" because Mike is the King of the valley specializing in Grenache wine. His wines are phenomenal !!!

We sipped on Grenache Blanc, with our 1st course "Smoked Bay Scallop Ceviche" and Grenache Rose with our 2nd course of "Hiramasa Tataki and Strawberry Salad". 3rd course was "Northern Australia Barramundi" paired with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre. 4th course "Olive Oil Poached Small Eye Shutome" paired with one of my favorites of Mikes wines "Look me in the eye" (cool label on the bottle) a Grenache, Syrah. Dessert..Peach Chamomille Mousse Torte (unbelievable)

Last night Tallulah took a nasty fall.. This just might be the worst one yet! Sean and Molly took her to the hospital because she was throwing up and therefore must have suffered a concussion. After several hours of observation they were able to take her home. Molly said she seems totally herself and fine this morning.

graduation gift, we decided to take GG up the The Grove in LA for
a "one of a kind" lunch at the "American Girl Cafe".

Here the experience is truly for the kids, but the "Older" kid in us really

A Day Filled with Dance......

Today started out at the Carpenter Center for the "Center Stage" Dance program which our 3yr old grand-daughter Piage is dancing her heart out with the other 3 somethings... what a 'show' it was filled with music and movement from all types of dance. Paige was the spotlight for Steve and I (of course) but it was not without some friends/families that Steve and I have come to know and love... these children are "Priceless"

Paige had the big "Dress Rehearsal" for her "Center Stage" dance studio this last Saturday at the Carpenter Center. Paige is '3'. Lip ink, eye shadow and shiny black tap shoes and she's styling. This is "Big Time". the detail in the costumes for these little ones, OMG!!

This was just the dress rehearsal and the second run through. The real show is this weekend, so you're getting a sneak peek.

Sean turned "30" on the 12th of February.
Molly rented an entire roller rink for his party. What a blast! All his friends and family showed up to get their "Skate On"
Most everyone skated to Sean's Ipod mix and munched on pizza and goodies Molly had scattered around the room. I even put on a pair of skates and gave it a try, I hadn't skated in maybe 15 or so years... it does come back, rusty! but it does come back.

We enjoyed a day in Canyon Lake for Uncle Pauls "going home farwell" party at Bob and Terri's home. Steve and I had Reagan & Paige for four days while Aaron and Sarah were in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.

This was a really fun day for me.... I was Reagan's "Special Person" she brought to Pre-school for the day, we had a blast moving from classroom to classroom making crafts, singing songs in the big church and just having a quality day together. Thank you Reagan for inviting me!!

We celebrated our family Christmas on the 19th of December this year. Aaron, Sarah and the girls went up north to Modesto to be with Sarah's dad and to celebrate his birthday which falls just after Christmas.

Molly took the girls and flew up north to spend Christmas with her parents, sisters and their families and other relatives, I was told some had never even met Tallulah and Emmy. Sean had to stay in Long Beach because of a very large and important job he was on deadline to complete by the end of the year..he even worked on Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas.

Tallulah's turning 2 on September 21st and this past weekend Sean and Molly had a Birthday Party for her. Unfortunately Uncle Aaron and Aunt Sarah didn't make it because Reagan and Paige were sick. Tallulah I'm sure missed them. Lucas, who she calls "Buddy" along with Mick and her cousins Olivia and Alexandra played together, jumping in the trampoline or splashing in the 2 pools Sean had put next to each other. Lucas & Tallulah just jumped back and forth from pool to pool having the best time. Sean and Molly had such a delicious spread of "Smoked Pork shoulder" homemade coleslaw and beans, and T's favorite baked Mac-n-chez.. then the finale of the evening "Chocolate, Chocolate cake" YUM!!!!!

Our street has been having a block party for many years now and every year tops the last... This year we had a "Cowboy" Western roundup theme and everyone dressed in hats, boots, bandana's and any western attire they could come up with. We had mechanical bull riding, panning for gold, a bounce house, and a huge water slide. Lunch was served to all the childern (hotdogs, chips and drinks) after lunch festivities included a balloon tossing competition, dog parade, line dancing and a talent show followed by dinner and dancing in the streets to our very own "Elm Street Band" from 5:00 to 8:30. It was such a fun day, Sean & Molly came by for awhile but had an engagement party to attend so Steve and I kept Emmy and Tallulah. Tallulah had a blast she enjoyed herself watch her dance to "California girls" with grandpa and then alone. Sarah and Aaron with there girls had a block party of there own so we didn't see Reagan or Paige this day. Boo Hoo they would have loved it..

Steve and I bought our 1st piece of commercial property and moved in in August. Wow!!! we our so thrilled to be able to have our own building. Steve started two other business's recently, 1. BrineMaker, Inc. and 2. CRP Tank Specialties, Inc. so we had really grown out of our little office across the street. I wish I had video of Sean, Kurt and Aaron moving our entire warehouse and office by way of forklift crossing the street, it was really a site.. with sometimes things slipping off and crashing into the street (thank God those were the items we didn't plan on keeping).. It has been a total "office family" experience!! even Angela and Barry stayed over in Long Beach the weekend we really "busted a move" Thank you to everyone involved!!! I will have "Before" and "After" pictures up on my Blog soon!

Today Emmy meets Reagan & Paige 07/13/10

Today I had Reagan, Paige and Tallulah for a little while. Molly had to take Emmy into see the Pediatrician. When they got back Reagan got to hold Emmy and Paige sat next to her in awh... Emmy had gained 4oz just overnight, Molly said the hospital had her on a schedule of 2/5/8 & 11 o'clock feedings so Molly has been pumping on that same schedule therefore making the transition at home very easy to say the least!! Molly is such a sweet and very loving mother. She said Emmy didn't cry all night, just makes little noises when she starts to wake or is ready for a feeding.. I am so glad she is home... She is such a peaceful baby. Tallulah was gentle (with help) when introduced to her baby sister and I think she is going to adjust just fine.

Grandpa showed up for lunch and received some warm hugs and loves from his grand-daughters. He also held Emmy for the 1st time since coming home from the hospital.

I met Molly at the hospital today, Emmy has been in the "Not so critical" area of the NICU since the night Molly was discharged. Emmy is doing so much better, she has been off the oxygen for a couple of days and they gave her for the 1st time a bottle of breast milk this morning...Molly and Sean spent the morning at the hospital and I took care of Tallulah, then I handed off Tula to Sean and went to the hospital to see and hold Emmy and help Molly in anyway that I could..Molly got to breast feed Emmy for the 1st time at approximately 3pm this afternoon.. Emmy took to her breast immediately, it was so natural at instinctive.. God willing they will remove all the wires and set Emmy free to just be the perfect, capable baby girl that she is. Her bellirubin count for (jaundice) is in a low range of the scale and that is a non-issue now. Emmy has lost a little weight, but is a strong eater and I have full faith she will be coming home in a couple of days..

WOW!! July started off with a bang!! Molly started having contractions on July 1st in the afternoon, she said she slept through the night no problem. The next day she had a play date with girlfriend's down in Newport beach, the contractions never stopped, then she started bleeding.. called her doctor and was told to go into the hospital and get checked out, perhaps an injection to stop the contractions since the scheduled c-section was for July 30ish, so off to Memorial hospital she and Sean go..after the 1st try to stop the contractions didn't work, in fact Molly said they proceeded and got stronger, so they tried again and again nothing..so it was decided this little girl was coming today!! I was giving Tallulah and Paige a bath when Steve came into the bathroom and gave me the news.. Molly wanted me..I'm on my way. Molly was in good spirits considering she's delivering a month early but we were all excited and anticipating the best. Just after 7:30pm they escorted Sean to the delivery operating room and told us to go to the nursery, the baby would be out in about 20minutes, so myself with Chris and Lea (friends of Sean & Molly)waited by the nursery for the baby to come out with Sean.
And out they came, Sean a big smile on his face, Emmy Karma Ireland was here.. Molly went to recovery and we found out Emmy weighed in at 5 lbs 15 oz and is 19" long..great weight for a month early.
After about 1/2 hour they decide to move her the NI CU because she isn't taking in enough oxygen.
So now we wait.. as of yesterday she was already doing much better, she's working at getting fluid out of her lungs and they've moved the amount of oxygen from 100% to 60%.
Molly was de-wired last night and got a shower, she looks amazing!! not sure when she'll come home, I know she doesn't want to come home empty handed.. well wait and see.
Steve and I are so excited to be grandparents for the 4th time now and couldn't be more proud!

I can't keep up with the fast pass of time anymore, I thought when you got a little older things would slow a bit. Not even true for a minuite. Here we are half way through 2010 and I feel as if my life is flying by, sometimes out of control. My mother (Vernetta) just turned 76 on the 28th and I'm so proud of her, she takes wonderful care of herself so shes very healthy and looks awesome. I'm only saddened by the fact that she lives up in Oregon an I'm down here. Happy Birthday Mom, I love you!!! you are a spiritual force and I know God leads you everyday because you allow him too. You have always put Christ 1st in your life and you are solid in your faith for that I evny you. You have been blessed with 3 grandsons who have produced (almost) 4 great grand-daughters for you... I wish you could see them as I do, growing, talking, laughing, loving, snuggling, singing, pretending, it's all such a wonderful experence for me as their Nani, what specisl gifts of God they are!!!! I hope you enjoy the "Smilebox" of our recent vacation and we all wish you a very special Happy Birthday!!!

Sarah and I took the girls to Disneyland to enjoy the last month of our "Annual Pass". We had a total blast... the 1st thing we did was fill my traditional craving for the "fritters" that I can't live without, so we hiked to just outside the "Pirates of the Caribbean" for the best "fritters" on earth!!!!
Then mushed to Princess Paradise, just outside "Toon Town" where we indulged the girls in a little face painting and waiting in a line for about 1 1/2 hours to see the princess's and have their picture taken. It was well worth it!! the girls always love it and I melt watching them interact with them.. The day was spectacular!!! I love behaving like a kid, I guess that is my privilege as their grandmother or "Nani"

What a great day!!!!
Molly's parents, Tom and Linda came into town on Dec 20th for their Christmas with Sean, Molly & Tula and we met them for lunch.... Then the news.... Baby #2 is on it's way!! We were all so excited. Molly's due date is July 28th 2010. Steve and I are so happy for them. Talluah is going to be a wonderful big sister.

Our Christmas with Sean, Molly & T was about a week after Christmas because of the flu that ran through our entire family... on Christmas Eve Beth was sick and couldn't make it, but we had 34 people that evening over for our usual Christmas Eve dinner and family gathering..by the next day, (Christmas Day) Molly was sick, the next day Sean and I were sick the next day Steve and Marcus got it.. family members were down sick all around us. It was a 24 hour flu and not the "Swine".. Thank God so these are pictures of our Christmas with "T"

The Passing of a Special Friend

Debbie Gustafson Ludwig My special friend for over 20 years has passed away. December 29th 2009 Debbie's life may have ended on this earth but my memory of her will go on.

Debbie suffered with the disease Lupus (SLE) Systemic lupus erythematosus, it is one of the many disorders of the immune system known as autoimmune diseases. The immune system turns against parts of the body it is designed to protect. In persons with SLE, the immune system produces antibodies against healthy cells and tissues. these antibodies, called autoantibodies, contribute to the inflammation of various parts of the body. The most common type of autoantibody that develops in persons with SLE is called antinuclear antibody, because it reacts with parts of a cell's nucleus. this leads to inflammation and damage to various body tissues. SLE can affect many parts of the body including the brain, heart, joints, kidneys, lungs, skin, and blood vessels. The course of SLE is characterized by periods of illness, or flares, and periods of wellness, or remission.

Debbie over the last 20+ years had this disease, but in spite of it early on we enjoyed many vacations and wonderful times together as families or just the two of us doing what girls do. I met Deb in a women's bible study through First Baptist Church of Lakewood, where our children went to school. We hit it off immediately and became really good friends, our kids all five of them were like siblings, her with her girls, Ingrid & Bridget and me with my boys, we were inseparable for several years, but as the kids got older the boys got involved in sports and our lives started taking different paths.

I will always hold a very special spot in my heart for her and her family. She is survived by Ed her husband, daughters Ingrid & Natalie Deb's granddaughter who just turned 3, Bridget (who found out on New Years day she is pregnant with their 1st baby)

It's funny how God works, the circle of life as we know it, taking one and giving another. My heart hurts now but I know Deb is in a great place "Heaven" (probably telling the Lord what to do) she was a wonderful friend, mother & wife. I will miss her and think of her often.

Debbie's Memorial service is Thursday Jan. 7, 2010 2:30 @ First Baptist Church of Lakewood.

Sarah and I took the girls to Disneyland on Tuesday the 1st of December. We have annual passes which makes it really nice to just spend a couple of hours at the "Happiest place on earth". Sarah packed the girls a lunch and off we went. It was a gorgeous warm sunny California day. The park was all decorated for Christmas. It wasn't a very crowded day either, we didn't have to wait very long to get on any ride. The girls had a blast. Paige wasn't to eager to have her picture taken with Pooh so we all jumped in to shoot this wonderful memory. Reagan even gave Pooh a hug.

A Day at the Park

Last weekend Steve and I had the girls Friday to Sunday .... Aaron took Sarah up to San Francisco for some fun get-away time.

I took the girls to the park on Friday and Saturday, we played for a good 2 hours....they had soooo much fun! and so did I, they were great all weekend. Grandpa and I totally enjoy our little girls.

Now here's a "Blast from my Past" I believe the year was 1997, Aaron was a Senior in high school. I was in an organization called "Rick Rackers", its a women's philantrophic organization I was involved in for about 5 years. One of my favorite events was "The Winter Wonderland Ball" I would always invite my closest friends we would get all dressed up and spend the evening dancing, drinking and just being the playful girls we were..

Only 12+ years between these pictures. Kim and I met Robbie when our sons' played Ice Hockey together. In those days Ice hockey games involved a lot of traveling, rinks were not close together, so the three of us spent a lot of time together.

We spent the afternoon at Aaron & Sarah's for a fun filled gathering...The kids had games of "pumpkin bowling" and "ball tossing" for goldfish, while the adults feasted on Aaron's "Gold Medal" Chili and cornbread. On Thursday evening the kids and grandkids all met at the "Pumpkin Patch" and took pictures and video's, watched the kids run around, ride the train and a Pink Elephant Reagan specifically told me "was not Dumbo". This was Tallulah's first real run-around at the patch... and boy do I mean Run-around!! She never stopped.. she was laughing and having the best time. I have two cute video's...

Little Miss Tallulah is a happy little girl now!!! she lets mommy and Nani know she's not to happy being forced to go into the water but she already rolls over and tries to keep herself afloat while hollering until someone hugs her up (that would be Miss Bree her swim instructor). On October 3rd, 2009 @ 4pm in the city of Westminster at the Elks Lodge a vow ceremony took place...our niece Rhea Elizabeth Ireland exchanged vows with Jerry Poucher.

Liz looked amazing in her long white strapless gown and gorgeous bouquet of white roses.
